Let's Talk Style, a Q & A with Ashley Gilbreath

This month to continue our "Let's Talk Style" series, we've interviewed Ashley Gilbreath.  Ashley is a southern-based interior designer who studied at Auburn University and the New York School of Interior Design. She is known for creating casual, elegant spaces where the family can gather to celebrate everyday living. She currently lives in Rosemary Beach, Florida, with her husband and three children. Faith keeps her going. Family keeps her smiling.

What’s your favorite item in your closet?  My bedroom slippers!

How would you describe your style?  In real life it’s anything that’s clean, ironed, and the first thing I put my hands on! When shopping I look for a mix of classic and contemporary items.

What item in your closet do you wear the most?  Loving a new gauzy Michael Stars spring dress.

What is one thing you wish you could tell the younger you about fashion/style?  Invest in classic pieces. Trendy cheap clothes are exactly that, trendy cheap clothes.

What is your favorite store to shop for clothes?  PARISH + Ex Voto and Willow, both in Rosemary Beach.

Where can you find the best tee shirt?  I love Banana Republic white tees.

Which items in your wardrobe do you think are worth the big-investment dollars and which items do you think are the best to save money when purchasing?  A great pair of jeans goes a long way. A classic black heel is an absolute must. Louboutins are totally worth the splurge. They’re classic, so comfortable, and killer looking! I love a good coat or sweater because it can serve so many purposes. You can dress it up or down and layer for different looks.

What’s one item you can’t live without?  Fun earrings from Vivian Drew!

How would you elevate the look of t-shirt and jeans with jewelry?  A fun pair of neutral gold statement earrings.

Do you prefer statement or delicate jewelry? If both, how do you mix the 2?  Love them both! A no brainer combo is studs with a necklace or two. If going with a statement earring, I usually wear a simple gold necklace.

What pieces of jewelry do you have on no matter where you are going?  Wedding bands for the left hand and a Peridot ring and a vintage band for the right. The first Mother’s Day after we lost our twins, my husband gave me a ring with the their August birthstone. My college besties gave me a vintage diamond band in the twins memory too. I always wear these together on my right hand. All are sweet memories.
